We are seeking a Veterinary Pharmacy Technician with experience or interest in sterile and non-sterile compounding. The ideal candidate will support the preparation of customized medications, manage inventory, uphold cGMP and USP standards, and ensure proper documentation and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or certification in pharmacy tech preferred

  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the state of TX

  • Prior compounding experience (veterinary or human) is highly preferred

  • Knowledge of USP <795>/<797>/<800> and cGMP compliance is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex protocols

  • Comfortable working in PPE

  • Able to lift 25–50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Sterile Compounding)

Non-Sterile Compounding and Medication Preparation

  • Compound customized veterinary medications in non-sterile dosage forms, including oral suspensions, capsules, powders, pastes, medicated treats, and topical preparations

  • Follow master formulation records (MFRs) and prescription orders with precision and accuracy

  • Operate non-sterile compounding equipment such as electronic balances, mortar and pestle, capsule machines, homogenizers, and ointment mills

  • Prepare and dispense medications in a variety of flavors and concentrations to suit exotic and wildlife species

  • Adhere strictly to USP <795> non-sterile compounding standards

Documentation and Labeling

  • Complete all required logs, compounding worksheets, and batch production records accurately

  • Ensure each compounded medication is labeled properly with drug strength, beyond-use date (BUD), species-specific instructions, and regulatory-required language

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation in accordance with DEA, state veterinary board, and pharmacy board guidelines

Inventory and Product Quality

  • Measure and handle active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients with precision

  • Monitor and manage stock levels of raw materials, packaging components, and flavoring agents

  • Perform quality control checks, including weight verification, visual inspection, and capsule uniformity testing

  • Assist in logging and removing expired or damaged inventory per pharmacy protocols

Work Area and Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant non-sterile compounding lab
    Clean and sanitize compounding surfaces, tools, and equipment before and after each preparation

  • Document cleaning logs and equipment maintenance records in compliance with internal SOPs and regulatory standards

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with pharmacists to clarify formulation instructions or prescription discrepancies

  • Communicate clearly with team members to prioritize workloads and ensure timely prescription turnaround
    Support customer service staff by providing accurate product status updates and clarifications when requested (under pharmacist supervision)
    Regulatory Awareness

  • Understand and comply with USP <795> , DEA, Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP), and Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (TBVME) regulations relevant to non-sterile veterinary compounding

  • Support internal audits and readiness for external inspections
